FERTILIZER AND WEED CONTROL
Year round
fertilizing and weed control is a key ingredient
in the overall health of your lawn. Mr. Green’s
standard program consists of six fertilizer
treatments and one grub control.
With our
standard program we visit your property every
month from April through September to apply the
appropriate feeding and/or weed/insect control
application. Spring Application Well-balanced fertilizer and pre-emergent crabgrass control May Application Well-balanced fertilizer with broadleaf weed control June Application Non-burning, well balanced fertilizer. July Application Slow release fertilizer with iron and spot treatment of weeds. August Application Slow release fertilizer with iron and spot treatment of weeds. September Application Well-balanced fertilizer with broadleaf weed control Insect/Grub Control Application A preventative treatment for the control of white grubs during the more devastating fall feeding cycle. Treatment is applied with the June or July fertilizer application. OVERSEEDING + DOUBLE PLUG AERATIONLawns can thin out and lose color due to excessive thatch buildup, hard or compacted soils, or periods of high temperature, high humidity, or drought. A double plug aeration treatment removes small cores of soil and thatch to allow air, moisture and fertilizer to penetrate down to the root zone. The cores brought to the surface contain microorganisms, which help the breakdown of the woody thatch tissue. This allows the roots of existing grass plants to spread out and grow deeper, creating a healthier, thicker lawn. The new seed takes root in the freshly aerated lawn and provides new life to your already established grass. As your lawn gets thicker and healthier, your new grass plants help reduce the chance of new weeds sprouting. PLUG AERATION
Plug Aeration can be done anytime the lawn is actively growing. Soil compaction is the number one reason to perform plug aeration. Through aeration, soil becomes less compacted and is exposed to the circulation of air. Once the soil is aerated, air exchange improves and the soil can easily absorb water, fertilizer and other nutrients. Does your lawn need plug aeration? Mr Green Lawncare Inc. strongly advocates all lawns get aerated once a year. The benefits are tremendous. · Improving air exchange between soil and atmosphere · Enhancing water and fertilizer uptake · Reducing water runoff and puddling · Strengthening turfgrass roots · Reducing soil compaction · Enhancing heat and drought stress tolerance · Enhancing thatch breakdown SOIL TESTSOur technicians frequently use soil probes to check for excessive thatch layers, stunted root growth and poor water drainage when servicing your lawn. Mr Green Lawncare Inc. also offers a soil testing service through MSU. A basic soil test usually includes analysis of soil pH, phosphorus, and potassium levels. Soil test kits are available through Mr Green Lawncare Inc. We will collect the soil sample and forward the information to Michigan State University for testing. A small testing fee may be attached to the service. INSECT PROBLEMSGrubs, chinchbugs and sodwebworm are common lawn insects found in many Michigan lawns across the Metro area and can cause extensive lawn damage if left untreated. It is impossible to predict which lawns will be affected each year, therefore we recommend the preventive grub control application for all lawns. This application is applied with your regular feeding of fertilizer done in June or July. MOLE CONTROLContrary to popular belief, moles are often present in grub-free lawns. Moles get the vast majority of their dietary needs from earthworms. Control: Moles can be effectively controlled using our Talpirid Mole management program. The Talpirid baiting application works as an antagonist to the moles’ high energy demands. Moles typically die in their tunnels where they naturally decompose. Voles are often confused with Moles, so how do you tell which creature made the mess in your yard? Voles are small chunky rodents with short tails, a cousin of the field mouse. These animals will flee on their own to a new food source above ground once the snow has melted. But the damage can be significant. Over the winter months they create long runways under the snow. As the temperatures warm up, and the grass starts growing use good cultural practices so the damaged area will fill back in with healthy turf. Moles on the other hand will not leave your lawn unless forced out. Moles feed on bugs and worms. Earthworms are their major diet of choice.

Our technician applies a granular or liquid product to the foundation and surrounding ground around your home for protection against crawling insects. Our perimeter pest control package consists of 3 applications spaced throughout the prime pest season, usually every 45 days beginning in May. $125.00 For 3 applications MOSQUITO BARRIERWe have added a new application of Mosquito Barrier to our service offering. It is a wonderful product that will help control those pesky mosquitoes for your outdoor function. This product has no insecticide in it, but the mosquitoes don’t know that. Best when applied just prior to your outdoor activity. Call now to schedule your date of application. 734-453-1219 ORGANIC FERTILIZEROrganic granulated slow release fertilizers replenish the soil with a rich supply of humus and the essential nutrients required for long term soil building and plant growth. Benefits of using composted natural fertilizers include reduced thatch buildup, reduced soil compaction, reduced nitrate and pesticide movement, increased levels of soil organic matter and reductions in the incidence and severity of certain turfgrass diseases. As with any fertilizer, don't expect the natural organics to make all your turf woes disappear. Following good turf management practices is still the best course of action. Mow high, return clippings, plug aerate soils annually and water one inch per week preferrably during the heat of the day and your turf will be the envy of everyone on the block WINTER DORMANT FERTILIZERSFor the late fall fertilizer application Mr. Green Lawncare Inc. applies a product that has the majority of the nitrogen in a water soluble form. This fertilizer application will supply the nutrients to the turf immediately and allow the plant to store "food" (carbohydrates) for next spring. An effective late fall fertilization will benefit the turf by producing carbohydrates, encouraging early spring root growth, providing good fall and spring color and improving turf density so the turf will better compete with weeds next spring. Generally for Mr. Green Lawncare Inc. customers, the late fall application would be about the first or second week of November. EARTH FRIENDLY FERTILIZER PROGRAMThe purpose of an Earth-Friendly lawn care program for environmental protection is to provide consumers with a lawn fertilizing program using earth friendly fertilizers which meet the three criteria of slow release nitrogen, low or no phosphorus and free of pesticides. The homeowner needs to incorporate healthy lawn care practices to support root growth and a thick healthy lawn that will naturally resist weeds. Homeowner practices include, cutting high, recycling clippings, and proper watering practices. Please contact our office for further information about our earth friendly program. VEGETATION CONTROLTotal vegetation control is to remove weeds in areas where there is no landscaping. For large areas of vegetation please contact our office at 734-453-1219. FUNGICIDE APPLICATIONSIn certain cases fungicides may be needed to prevent or aid in the process of healing a lawn from a fungus.
